Hey it's Emil! My phone is probably on silent, or I'm sleeping. Leave a message and I'll call you back!

It's funny but seriously, what are we going to do in July and August.

I'm really sorry to break this to you: it can and apparently will get up to at least 30.
skald: (viisitoista)

good thing tuuri can still read it

[personal profile] skald 2017-05-22 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
I know! Apparently in some parts of this country it can get to *40*!

I honestly don't know what to do. What do you even wear when it's that hot?
skald: (viisikymmentäyksi)

[personal profile] skald 2017-05-22 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well hopefully it will never get THAT hot here but apparently we need to prepare for up to 35

And I really don't know how to! Work has air conditioning but I still have to get there!
skald: (kuusitoista)

[personal profile] skald 2017-05-22 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, and then they'll have to pay you overtime and you can afford all the uber pools we'll be sharing!
skald: (kuusikymmentäkaksi)

[personal profile] skald 2017-05-22 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Perfect! Alright! So when it gets to be 30 degrees outside, let's agree to share an uber. I'm sure it can't happen that often.

[this is like, a few days during the summer, right?]

[personal profile] skald 2017-05-23 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Good call. I probably can't either.

In fact, I'll just text you as soon as it gets too hot to go outside, whatever the temperature may be.

[Tuuri sends a picture of a piece of paper with some Icelandic written on it.]

Hey, quick question, how much of this can you understand? It's sort of similar to Swedish, right?
skald: (yhdeksänkymmentäkaksi)

[personal profile] skald 2017-06-13 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, really? Not even the easy stuff like "what you said in your last letter" or "the Star" and things like that?
skald: (kahdeksankymmentäkahdeksan)

[personal profile] skald 2017-06-15 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah? I mean I checked on Google Translate and all my guesses were right. You honestly can't read this?
skald: (kolmetoista)

[personal profile] skald 2017-06-17 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
[She doesn't respond for about ten minutes, and then]

Can you call me
skald: (kahdeksankymmentäkuusi)

[personal profile] skald 2017-06-17 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Haha that's cute... but instead of laughing, Tuuri launches into rapid-fire Swedish.]

Hi Emil, thank you for calling. I just went to Wikipedia and read a few articles in Icelandic to test my knowledge of the language-- articles about things I don't know anything about, by the way! and Wikipedia because I couldn't think of another place that would have so much reading material in Icelandic-- and I'm pretty sure it's not just language similarities, I think I somehow gained the ability to understand Icelandic. I say somehow but we both know that it's probably Retrospec's fault.

[She still sounds... almost upset.]

Anyway, I need you to be honest with me! I don't think I'm an accurate judge of my current Swedish language ability, so you need to tell me the truth: how do I sound? Language-wise, I mean! Have you noticed any differences in my speaking ability?
skald: (neljäkymmentäkuusi)

[personal profile] skald 2017-06-17 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, I knew it! About sounding serious, I mean, I try to do the sing-songy boppy thing that you guys do but-- but what if I've lost that?!

[No, she's just overthinking it.]

I heard about this girl who got fleunt Russian and intermediate Japanese from the app-- but in exchange, her English got worse! I need to check for that sort of thing!

[and then she gasps]

Emil! What if it's Finnish?! I don't even know how I'd check my Finnish without alerting my brother that something is wrong!
